description: Vorlesung im WiSe 2011-2012; Dienstag, 20. Dezember 2011
abstract: This course of lectures provides a general survey of the field of literary studies and runs parallel to the PS I: Introduction to Literary Studies. It will familiarize students with the basic questions and areas of English and American literary studies in its present state, which covers not only literature, but also a wide range of theoretical questions as well as media and cultural studies perspectives. Within this framework the most important approaches to analysing texts will be introduced through exemplary close readings of many key texts of literary and cultural history. Please note that this course of lectures and the PSI Introduction to Literary Studies form the ‘Basic Module’ of the degree programmes at the English Department. While there will be no written exam at the end of the lecture course, its content will nevertheless be relevant for passing the written exams/term papers in your chosen PSI. It will also figure in your intermediate examination (‘Zwischenprüfung’).
