description: Vorlesung im SoSe 2018; Freitag, 06. Juli 2018
abstract: This lecture course will introduce you to the main concepts of what has come to be known as "Cultural Studies", a discipline that employs the theoretical concepts emerging of poststructuralism and its successors to analyse cultural artefacts from a broad range of cultural forms beyond canonical literary texts; film, advertising, popular music, bodily practices, lifestyles, etc... We will be discussing the classic topics considered by Cultural Studies such as gender, race, class, performativity, postcoloniality, historiography, but will also be launching off into newer issues of urgent relevance to our own context such as bio- and necropolitics, migration, finance capital, climate change. In particular, we will be asking about the ways in which the study of the literary humanities can be articulated within the broader context of the multi-crises that characterize today's world and how training in the humanities may equip graduates for life outside the lecture hall.
